Customised Cookie Cutters
The very humble cookie cutter has never really crossed our paths before now. Well I say that, of course I’ve used them to make a few biscuits – we’re British don’t you know? And cookies are for Americans! Or are they? The ones I’ve encountered have tended to be in the shape of a dinosaur or something equally uninspiring. Because, whilst I love to bake, I’m not very good at going freelance. I need the outline to colour in, if you know what I mean. And a quirky cookie cutter provides that joy.

But that was until very recently, when we invested in our first 3D printer, with the idea of printing camping parts. Glow in the dark tent pegs etc – but we got a little side tracked, like you do. We were led by our stomachs, well okay, by mine, and began investigating the idea of printing cookie cutters. Not any old cutter though. Oh no! The baking world is awash with hearts, ducks, butterflies and the like. Nope! As usual with SED Developments, we wanted to go outside the ‘tent’ – as it were.

A few short years back, we had a business selling camping and outdoor gear – more of that here.  We used to take that business to steam shows and countryside days and what not. Then we got into 3D printing – otherwise known as additive manufacturing – and started to put unusual biscuit cutters on our stand. Steam engines, steam rollers and the like. Much to our surprise they were VERY well received. In fact they pretty much flew off the table. And that got us thinking – what else could we do? As it turns out – quite a lot.

So, without further ado, let me introduce you to a few of our designs. Do though excuse the icing – it’s really not our forte!
